Jack Butland comes back from an England start to the number one shirt at Stoke |
GARRY MONK has warned his international contingent the party is over as Swansea look to get back to winning ways against Stoke on Monday.
The Swans are set to have at least six players on duty at the Euro 2016 finals in France next summer after the likes of Ashley Williams, Neil Taylor, Lukasz Fabianski and Gylfi Sigurdsson celebrated qualification.
While their manager is pleased for his players, Monk has made it clear he will not accept a repeat of Swansea's lacklustre form after the last international break, which saw them go four games without victory.
"It has been great for a number of our players of all different nationalities, it has been fantastic," said Monk.
"It is good for me though that it is done and dusted. It is a good thing for me as a manager of Swansea, I feel it is important they put it to bed now. They need to concentrate on their football here at the club.
"That is my message, I have spoken to them and they are fully aware of it."
Stoke manager Mark Hughes was equally bullish, insisting goalkeeper Jack Butland will n ot be going anywhere after making the grade for club and country with Stoke.
Garry Monk has left his Welsh players under no illusions about his expectations |
Butland is now firmly established as Stoke's No1 and last week made his competitive debut for England in their final Euro 2016 qualifier.
"He has bided his time and we have been able to give him the opportunity to be a No1, which all young keepers want, so there is no reason for him to move."
Stoke could have record signing Xherdan Shaqiri back from a thigh injury but striker Mame Biram Diouf is absent on compassionate leave following the tragic death of his mother in September's Hajj crush in Saudi Arabia.
