NEW Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce is keen on signing Charlie Austin in January.
The Queens Park Rangers striker was linked with several clubs in the Premier League including Chelsea, Newcastle United, West Ham and Crystal Palace.
He opted to stay at Loftus Road, in favour of a season in the Championship, which at the end of he will be a free agent.
But Allardyce who became the latest man to become manager at the Stadium of Light last week has already targeted the 26-year-old, who scored 18 goals in the Premier League last season.
According to ESPN FC, Allardyce believes Austin is the man to help move the club away from relegation danger.
Sunderland nineteenth in the league, five points away from safety after eight games.
Allardyce's first match, since taking over from Dick Advocaat, is against West Brom on Saturday.
