Pressure mounting on Jose Mourinho after Carlo Ancelotti confirms Premier League interest

CARLO ANCELOTTI has heaped more pressure on under-fire Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho by revealing he wants to return to Premier League management.

 

Former Blues boss Ancelotti has been out of work since being sacked by Real Madrid in the summer.

He was touted to take over at Liverpool after Brendan Rodgers lost his job before the international break, only for Reds bosses to appoint Jurgen Klopp.

But Ancelotti would be a candidate to return to Stamford Bridge should Chelsea sack Mourinho, who was given the vote of confidence by owner Roman Abramovich recently.

On managing again, Ancelotti said: “I am ready to get the engine back up and running in January. I’d like to go back to the Premier League. 

"It is the ideal environment not for football, but for the ‘game’ around football.

"You can work with the right amount of pressure, the necessary detachment and calm.

"Before I quit, I’d like to have another experience in England.

“Where will I go? Where they call me. I will talk, evaluate and decide.

"Up until a few weeks ago I was scared someone would call, but now I feel like I’m getting closer to that comeback."

 

Ancelotti won a Premier League and FA Cup double during his first stint at Chelsea between 2009 and 2011.

He took over from Dutchman Guus Hiddink, who had filled the void left by Mourinho's first spell in charge at the club, and was replaced by Roberto Di Matteo.

Chelsea, meanwhile, currently lie 16th in the Premier League, having won just two of their eight top-flight games so far this season.

The defending champions face Aston Villa this Saturday (3pm) before a Champions League group game at Dynamo Kiev the following Tuesday.
