Jamie Vardy opened the scoring for Leicester in their win over Norwich |
THE Tinkerman is back – and the Foxes fans didn’t like it!
But Claudio Ranieri, who got his nickname when he rarely named an unchanged side during his time at Chelsea, was proved to be spot on with his shock changes as Jamie Vardy stepped up to get them back on a winning roll.
Ranieri was up to his old tricks at Carrow Road, dropping star turn Riyad Mahrez to the bench after he scored five times in seven games.
But that counted for nothing as Ranieri decided that he needed to stop the flow of goals after last weekend’s 5-2 defeat against Arsenal.
Ranieri explained Mahrez’s absence from the side: “I knew very well how Norwich play – they push a lot on the flanks, left and right.”
Jeff Schlupp grabs Leicester's second |
Vardy silenced anyone doubting the selection when he nipped in front of Sebastien Bassong, whose desperate tackle was more clumsy than anything else, and Vardy converted the spot kick.
With his broken right wrist wrapped in a blue cast to match his shirt, Vardy simply terrified and terrorised the Canaries.
The Jeff Schlupp drilled a second as Vardy ran riot.
Ranieri said: “It’s not only scoring goals, it important how he is pressing. That helps the players behind him.”
But the Italian still couldn’t keep a clean sheet – Dieumerci Mbokani flicked home Jonny Howson’s cross for his first Premier League goal.
Canaries’ boss Alex Neil said: “Our use of the ball was poor.”
