Perez celebrating scoring the opening goal for Newcastle in the 2-2 draw to Chelsea |
NEWCASTLE UNITED star Ayoze Perez reveals he had a pep talk with Chelsea ace Pedro and believes he is a 'great person'.
The Magpies drew 2-2 with Chelsea after surrendering a two-goal lead with goals from Ramires and Willian rescuing the point to spare the blushes of under pressure manager Jose Mourinho.
Both players were born on the Spanish island of Tenerife and Perez said the two spoke as they swapped shirts following the draw at St James' Park.
"It was a great pleasure to play with someone as great as Pedro. After the match we talked about his adaptation to England and how we would help each other," the 22-year-old told the Chronicle.
"We changed shirts and we hugged. He is a great person."
The Spaniard was also delighted that he was playing for the Magpies after starting the season on the bench.
"I expected more participation in the first games, but the beginning of the season was complicated. New signings arrived and a different coach. Now it seems that the work is paying off. I feel pretty good, very close to 100%."
Perez has scored eight goals in 41 appearances for Steve McClaren's side since joining from Tenerife.
