Stoke are hopeful of reaching a contract extension with Jon Walters |
STOKE boss Mark Hughes wants Jon Walters to stay at the Britannia Stadium -- and hopes the club can still reach an agreement to prevent the forward from quitting the Potters.
Walters handed in a transfer request in August after Stoke refused to extend his contract until 2018.
The club wasn't prepared to go beyond June 2017 with a new deal for Walters, who scored his fourth club goal of the season on Tuesday evening as Chelsea were knocked out of the Capital One Cup by Stoke on penalties.

Possible moves to Leicester or Norwich were blocked for the Republic of Ireland international. Hughes hopes the stand-off can be breached before the striker reaches the end of his current contract next summer.
"From purely a selfish and football point of view it makes complete sense to me to try and keep Jon here," said Hughes.
"I understand the club's point of view that length of contract is important when you're talking about the levels we're talking about and financial commitment to players.
"Jon is playing really well and he's an important member of the group. I'm hopeful we can go back to the table. We'll see where it takes us again."
