MANCHESTER UNITED legend Andrei Kanchelskis has applied for the vacant manager's position at Irish outfit Derry City, according to reports in Ireland.
The ex-United winger has been out of work since being sacked by Latvian club Jurmala last year after they were relegated.But he is now keen to return to football and The Irish Mirror claim he has made an official application to Derry.Paul Hegarty is currently in caretaker charge and remains the favourite for the job on a full-time basis.However, 46-year-old Kanchelskis has thrown his hat into the ring and United fans would surely love to see one of their icons back in the game.He moved to Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk in 1991 and became a cult figure in four years at the club.

He made more than 120 appearances and won two Premier League titles before moving to Everton in 1995.He also had stints at Fiorentina, Rangers and returned to England to play for Manchester City and Southampton.His management career has also taken on Russian sides Ufa and Torpedo-ZIL Moscow.
