Man United ready to swoop in to beat Tottenham to Newcastle star Ayoze Perez

Ayoze Perez is on United's radar

MANCHESTER UNITED are monitoring the progress of Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez.

 

The 22-year-old is also wanted by Tottenham after an impressive debut campaign last season.

Perez joined Newcastle from Tenerife for £1.5million in 2014.

He's scored once in six appearances so far this season for Steve McClaren's struggling side.

 

It came in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea at St James' Park.

And, according to the Newcastle Chronicle, United are keeping tabs on the Spain under-21 star.

Perez was praised by former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and told Marca: “We all know Sir Alex Ferguson and how big he was for football.

“They are big words that I have to prove so much.

“But I’m young and I have a long journey.

“I work so everything gets better.”

Tottenham tried to sign Perez in the summer but Newcastle rejected their offer.

And he admits it's flattering to hear from other clubs.

“There was interest from Tottenham, especially Pochettino," he said earlier this month.

“It’s a very nice compliment for me.”
