Raheem Sterling completed a £49million move to Manchester City this summer |
RAHEEM STERLING has praised his former team Liverpool on the way they handled his departure to Manchester City.
The 20-year-old completed a £49million move to the Eithad Stadium this summer but left Anfield in difficult circumstances, upsetting many of the Liverpool faithful.
The England international had turned down a new £100,000-a-week contract with Liverpool insisting he wasn't a "money-grabbing 20-year-old."
But following his infamous interview with the BBC, Sterling's comments had left Liverpool fans angry - that even saw him booed by fans after collecting Liverpool's Young Player of the Year award.
And tempers were raised further when Sterling requested an omission from Brendan Rodgers' travelling squad for Liverpool's tour of the Far East and Australia in pre-season.
But Sterling admits Liverpool handled his move professionally and made his departure easier - despite the press reporting there were problems between himself and Brendan Rodgers.
“When everything was going on and it was in the papers every day, everyone at Liverpool was top-notch," he told the Guardian.
"I spoke to the manager every day. I spoke to all the players.
"Everyone outside the club made it out as being something really bad but there was no problem with the manager or the other players.
"The manager even invited me over to his house to talk. It wasn’t anything like as bad as people made out.”
