JOE ROTHWELL has returned to Manchester United from a loan spell at Barnsley because of illness.
The 20-year-old midfielder has been recalled by his parent club as he is suffering from tonsillitis.
Rothwell joined the Tykes on loan for six months in July as part of a double deal that saw team-mate Ben Pearson complete the same move.
Pearson was also on loan at the Yorkshire club last season.

Both Rothwell and Pearson are highly regarded at Old Trafford and have been tipped as starts of the future.
After completing the move in the summer, Rothwell said: "I'm really excited to be here. I've heard a lot about the place from Ben Pearson.
"He couldn't speak highly enough of his time here and I just can't wait to get going
"I had no hesitation about coming here after speaking with Lee Johnson.
"Barnsley almost made it into the League One play-offs with Ben here last season so, hopefully, we can go one better this time."
He has made three appearances in League One and another in the League Cup this season.
