Could Diego Simeone replace Jose Mourinho at Chelsea |
CHELSEA are reportedly considering Diego Simeone as a potential replacement for Jose Mourinho.
While the Blues have publicly backed Mourinho despite their poor start to the season, owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly told the Chelsea boss he must reassert his authority in the dressing room. If not, his time at Stamford Bridge may be coming to an end.
And as a result of Mourinho's uncertain future, Chelsea have reportedly assessed to possibility of enticing Diego Simeone to the Premier League, according to the Daily Mirror.
The newspaper claim sources in Portugal suggest under-pressure Mourinho is aware Chelsea are planning his successor if he fails to turn the Premier League champion's season around.
Argentine Simone is long-admired for his successes at Atletico, however poaching him from La Liga will come at a huge cost for Chelsea.
Simone has just signed a new five-year deal at Atletico worth a whopping £22.5million.
And the contract includes a £15m buy-out clause that either party could trigger at the end of each season.
Mourinho however is protected by the four-year £30m deal he signed in the summer at Chelsea.
