Nemanja Matic was sent off during Chelsea's loss at West Ham |
The Blues went down to goals from Mauro Zarate and Andy Carroll, with five players picking up yellow cards alongside Nemanja Matic's red.
Matic was booked twice before half time, with Cesar Azpilicueta, Cesc Fabregas, Willian, Diego Costa and Jon Obi Mikel all being carded.
And an FA spokesman said on Monday that the fine was automatic.
However, the defending Premier League champions have also been asked for their observations on three incidents during the match.
And further punishment may be heading the way of manager Jose Mourinho.
The boss was sent to the stands at half time by referee John Moss and refused to fulfil his obligatory media duties after the match.
The Premier League will write to Chelsea about a possible breach of that regulation, with a warning or fine the most likely outcome if any sanction were to be made.
Mourinho himself is under pressure to get results as Chelsea languish 15th in the Premier League, having lost five of their 10 top-flight games this season.
Both Carlo Ancelotti and Guus Hiddink - former managers at Stamford Bridge - have been tipped as possible replacements should the Portuguese boss get the axe.
