Nike has made good on its promise and built the fictional self-lacing trainers from Back to the Future Part II.
The iconic trainer was teased in a series of cryptic tweets to Marty McFly actor Michael J Fox – fuelling rumours Nike would release the fictional footwear in time for the anniversary.
Time travelling Marty McFly dons the futuristic footwear in the 1989 classic after travelling to October 21 2015 with "Doc" Brown.
Now 26 years later, the time has finally arrived for film fans to slip on the self-lacing shoes.

The 2015 Nike Mag will be available for a limited time only via auction. All proceeds will go to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
Nike says it will release the date of the charity auction on Twitter in Spring 2016 – plenty of time to start saving those pennies.
Nike last night delivered the shoes to their rightful owner – Michael J Fox – in the ultimate nod to Back to the Future fans.
The firm tweeted a video of the Hollywood star trying on the shoes.

Nike previously made a limited run of Marty McFly’s Nike Mags, back in 2011. However the fund-raising footwear used old-fashioned manual laces.
Some 1,500 pairs of the trainers were produced with each pair being sold via auction. A total of $6 million was raised for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
Film fans knew the innovative lace technology was always on the horizon.

Commenting on the unveiling of the iconic shoes, Nike President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Parker: “We started creating something for fiction and we turned it into fact, inventing a new technology that will benefit all athletes.”
The shoe packs a battery-powered mechanism that automatically cinches the trainer’s laces tight. Fortunately there is also a manual solution should your shoes run out of juice.
The shoemaker says it will continue to test and tweak the technology found in the shoe, so with any luck this won’t be the last we see of the game-changing trainer.

The shoe hides a high powered mechanism
According to records Nike applied for a patent to license “automatically lacing trainers” back in 2010.
It read: "The automatic lacing system provides a set of straps that can be automatically opened and closed to switch between a loosened and tightened position of the upper.
"The article further includes an automatic ankle cinching system that is configured to automatically adjust an ankle portion of the upper."
