ARSENE WENGER believes that Mesut Ozil is finally showing his true colours in an Arsenal shirt and is backing him to continue the form he began to show going into the international break.
The German was instrumental in the convincing win against Manchester United that led into the break in the domestic programme and will start against Watford on Saturday as Arsenal look to build on that momentum.
It has been a difficult two seasons since his arrival on August deadline day in 2013 and in January Wenger was even considering drawing a line under the £43m experiment in the summer.
However, after the World Cup winner showed flashes of his ability in the Premier League towards the end of last season he decided to persevere and now Wenger feels the Germany international has moved up another gear again.
“Has Ozil set a standard for himself with his United performance? Yes,” Wenger said.
“Because you want from Mesut Ozil to score as well in big games and he did that against Manchester United.
“When you are an offensive player that is an important part of it. I believe there are goals in him and in that game he has shown it.”
