Arsenal even recorded just 13 shots to Bayern's 21 but an inspired performance from goalkeeper Petr Cech kept the hosts in the game.
But defensive midfielder Coquelin insists the result proves Arsenal got their tactics spot on against the Bundesliga champions.
"We knew Bayern would have a lot of the ball, but in the recent games against the big teams we have not had as much possession and counter-attacked," he said.
"It worked well again here and everyone defended really well and we didn’t concede any goals, so I am really pleased with the performance."

Arsenal remain bottom of Group F after losing their first two games, against .
Discussing the group, Frenchman Coquelin added: "In the first two games we didn’t perform and we knew we had to win here to stay in the competition.
"We have been doing really well in the league and we had to do that in the Champions League too, and we have done that so we have to carry on in that way."
