Diego Costa was unable to prevent defeat for Chelsea |
The Premier League champions have made a slow start to the season domestically but had started their Champions League campaign well with a win against Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
But they were undone by a vibrant Porto side on Jose Mourinho's return to the club where he won the Champions League in 2004.
And the Spaniard feels Chelsea lost control after Porto got their second goal.
He said: "We had the game under control. We knew it was going to be a physical game. We began well.
"Things changed when they scored, but we quickly equalised.
"In the second half the same thing happened - we were lacking concentration at key moments of the game."
Costa, who has one more match of his three game ban to serve in the Premier League, says the squad are "united" despite suffering a loss of confidence.
He added: "We are all united.
"It's not a good moment now. We must do more.
"We have a good squad with a great deal of quality. We have maybe lost some confidence in three or four games.
"The manager knows the quality of his team. He knows what we can do.
"It is the responsibility of all of us. We have to improve our character and confidence."
