PSV EINDHOVEN have given Manchester United a glimpse of what to expect on Tuesday, with a 6-0 win in the Eredivisie.
The Dutch league champions thrashed 10-man Cambuur Leeuwarden with striker Luuk de Jong scoring a hat-trick.
Davy Propper and two from Jurgen Locadia completed the victory which leaves them second behind leaders Ajax.
United face PSV at the Philips Stadion in their first game of the Champions League.
Louis van Gaal appeared to rule Wayne Rooney out of the match, after he missed the 3-1 win against Liverpool yesterday with a hamstring injury.
"He is injured so we have to take care of him," van Gaal told MUTV.
"I think he is very important for us and I don’t to take any risks so that’s why he doesn’t play today.
"I don’t think he will play against PSV Eindhoven, but maybe he shall play at Southampton. We have to wait and see if he can play against PSV because we still have three days to go."
