David De Gea in line for first start of the season against Liverpool |
DAVID DE GEA is set to return to Manchester United's starting XI for Saturday's visit of Liverpool after signing a new four-year contract.
The goalkeeper has yet to feature for the opening six fixtures because Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal felt he could not focus properly.
But with a proposed move to Real Madrid now dead in the water, the Spaniard is being considered for the Old Trafford clash against arch-rivals Liverpool.
When asked about his availability for Saturday's game against Liverpool, Van Gaal responded: "You shall see - you never know.
"His head is empty now and that is important. He can focus but we have to judge him in training.
Michael Carrick is available despite picking up a calf injury on international duty but fellow midfielder Andreas Pereira (unspecified) and centre-back Phil Jones (thrombosis) are out.
Manchester United provisional squad: De Gea, Romero, Johnstone, Shaw, Rojo, Blind, McNair, Smalling, Darmian, Valencia, Carrick, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Depay, Young, Lingard, Rooney, Martial, Wilson
