Former Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzari has flown to Liverpool to discuss manager's position |
WALTER MAZZARI has flown to England to meet with Liverpool, according to reports in Italy.
The former Inter Milan coach is believed to have taken a Ryanair flight to Liverpool from Pisa airport at 10.10 this morning to discuss terms with Liverpool over replacing under pressure boss Brendan Rodgers, claim Italia 24 News.
Despite huge investment over the summer, Rodgers has started the season poorly with Liverpool winning just twice in the Premier League and currently experiencing an injury crisis - with Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson, Christian Benteke and Dejan Lovren sidelined.
The move would be good news for Inter, who are still paying off Mazzari after sacking him last year in favour of Roberto Mancini.
Since Liverpool's 3-1 defeat to Manchester United, Rodgers' odds on remaining Kop boss have plummeted from 3/1 to 5/4 with Sky Bet.
Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti have been linked with the Anfield job with the former claiming he now wants to manage in England, while Ancelotti will be looking to get back in the managerial hot seat after his departure from Real Madrid.
However, Rodgers has come out fighting and claimed that he is not frightened of the Anfield axe, but admits he needs to start getting results in order to safeguard his job.
“I am never complacent enough to think (my job is not under threat),” Rodgers said.
“What drives a manager on is that fear, a positive fear, that every day you need to be at your best.
