Chelsea reportedly offered Luisao a two-year deal on deadline day |
CHELSEA made a last-ditch attempt to sign Luisao from Benfica, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho was on the hunt for defenders on deadline day, snapping up Michael Hector and Papy Djilobodji.
However, reports in Portugal suggest the Blues made a late enquiry for the 34-year-old Luisao before signing the two centre-backs.
Newspaper O Jogo suggests the Premier League club offered the Brazil international a two-year deal that was turned down by the club.
Luisao was reportedly keen on the move and a 'favourable' deal is understood to have turned his head before Benfica shot down the move.
The defender, Benfica's longest-serving captain in history, will now instead see out his career with the Primeira Liga side.
He has made 287 league appearances for the club, scoring 25 goals and has worn the club's armband for 229 matches.
