Florentino Perez says Sergio Ramos was never going to leave |
SERGIO RAMOS was never going to join Manchester United, according to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
The centre-back was linked with a move to Old Trafford with reports surfacing in June that he wanted to call time on his La Liga career.
United were understood to have made a £28.6million bid for the defender, according to Sky Sports, and followed it up with subsequent offers.
However, the move never materialised and relations turned sour between the two clubs amid reports Ramos had used the Red Devils to get a better personal deal.
And Perez seems to have confirmed this, suggesting there was never any danger of the club captain leaving the Bernabeu.
He told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser: "There is nothing to talk about. Nothing eventually happened.
"It was just another episode of the summer. I never thought he was going to leave. Maybe you thought that [the media] but he was never close to leaving us."
