Newcastle manager Steve McLaren was fuming after Aleksandar Mitrovic picked up his 47th yellow card |
Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren was fuming after bad boy striker Aleksandar Mitrovic was handed the 47th yellow card of his career while representing Serbia.
McClaren will be without the £12 million summer signing from Anderlecht for three games after he was sent off in the last Premier League game against Arsenal.
That followed on from two bookings – both of which were lucky not to be red cards – since arriving on Tyneside.
Mitrovic will miss Newcastle's next three games after being sent-off against Arsenal last week |
The latest piece of ill discipline is worrying McClaren arrived on Friday night when Serbia beat Armenia in a European Championship qualifier.
In addition to his 47 bookings Mitrovic has also been sent off six times – and he is still only 20.
McClaren knows that questions will be asked at boardroom level if he keeps missing games though suspension.
It’s why he will tell Mitrovic in no uncertain terms that the player’s Newcastle career is on the line unless he mends his ways.
