Gareth Bale believes he will have a better chance of winning the Ballon D'Or if he stays in Spain |
Manchester United have made no secret of their interest in bringing Wales superstar Bale back to the Premier League.
But Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett says his client is happy again at the Bernabeu after his frustrating second season there because new boss Rafa Benitez handed him a freer role.
"If you look at the statistics, he didn't get the ball that much. And by the time he did get it there were already two or three men on him because it didn't come quickly enough. Their first thought was always give it to Ronaldo which is understandable and every time it went the other way it was hard for Gareth.
"But he is not playing wide right now, he is playing more centrally, more like the freedom he has for Wales, and I think that is going to suit him more. Rafa's going to give him that. And he enjoys that role because he was getting a little frustrated. And as long as he scores the goals and the team does well it is easier to accept."
Meanwhile, David De Gea will have clear-the-air talks with United boss Louis Van Gaal when they meet for the first time since the collapse of his move to Real on transfer deadline day.
Van Gaal is understood to be ready to recall De Gea for his first start of the season against Liverpool on Saturday providing the goalkeeper re-assures him he is mentally and physically ready to play again.
