Anthony Martial has yet to move into a permanent address in Manchester |
FRENCH wonderkid Anthony Martial will get even better when he has settled into a new home, according to Louis Van Gaal.
Martial has been living in a hotel with his wife and baby daughter since joining Manchester United in a £36m move form Monaco on deadline day.
The 19-year-old striker has still managed four goals in three games but Van Gaal says once he has his own home he will be able to focus even more on his football.

“He is still living in a hotel with his wife and kid so he is in the first phase of his adaptation,” he said. “That is also important because that shall have an influence also.
“We shall have to see how he settles into an apartment or a house. Then his wife is alone with his kid. Then he is coming back. Then he has to do shopping or something like that.

“Now he is only living in a hotel, coming to the training session and eating with the players, train and prepare for matches. That is more or less the same rhythm that he had in Monaco, except he is living in a hotel. That is also a little bit protected area.
“The big step is when he settles himself and his wife in a new environment.”
While saluting his stunning impact, Van Gaal also believes Martial has enjoyed an element of good fortune. He points out that his goals against Liverpool and Ipswich came after he had come on as a substitute with the opponents more committed to attack because they were losing the games.

He added: “It [his good start] is down to the quality of the player and also down a little bit luck and his fellow players. He came on against Liverpool went they had to come [forward].
“Then his qualities are more stronger when a team has to come. It is the same as Ipswich. They had to come so I put him in the line-up. So he has had that luck but of course the main thing is his quality. He has to do it himself. He has to cope with the pressure. What we have seen until now he can do it.”
Martial could become the first United player to score in his first three Premier League games if he nets against Sunderland tomorrow but Van Gaal says the youngster is probably unaware of the potential achievement.

“No, I don't think so because he doesn't read the papers. Maybe he hears it from his fellow players, maybe, but I don't think his fellow players shall say you can break the record, but it is possible. I don't know.
“But his personality... he is an open guy, he is listening, watching and he is focusing on the matches so that I can see so for a manager he is a very coachable player and that is also why I like him and I bought him.”
Asked if he can help Wayne Rooney recover his best goal scoring form, Van Gaal added: “Every player helps each other, not only Wayne and Martial. Manchester United plays like a team, more than maybe other teams, so I think it is a team effort. “
