Christian Benteke was brought off at half-time yesterday |
NEWS NEWS BLOG SPORT brings you all the latest news from Anfield.
Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet could face the axe after manager Brendan Rodgers refused to rule out dropping his No.1 goalkeeper.
Mignolet appeared to flap at a cross in the 1-1 draw with Norwich at Anfield yesterday, allowing Russell Martin to equalise Danny Ings' opener.
And he could pay the ultimate price of losing his place in Rodgers' starting XI as the boss hinted summer signing Adam Bogdan might be given a chance.
"Every keeper you bring in, they are there to challenge the [first-choice] keeper," Rodgers said.
"I have done it before. I will do it again if I feel I need to make changes, whether goalkeeper or outfield."
Christian Benteke was brought off at half-time but Rodgers was quick to play down any fears he suffered an injury, insisting the decision to bring him off was precautionary.
"His hamstring felt a little bit tight, so we didn't want to take a risk," he said.
Elsewhere, in the aftermath of the disappointing home draw, Manchester United legend Gary Neville has questioned the club's ability to attract the world's best players.
Despite spending nearly £80million on new faces in the summer, Neville claims they are well behind their Premier League rivals.
"They can't compete in the transfer market with United, Chelsea and (Manchester) City and that's been proven now over a period of the last five, six, seven or eight years," he said.
Rodgers has also come under pressure as a result of their stuttering start this term and some reports suggest the club could hold talks with Jurgen Klopp about replacing him.
German football expert Raphael Honigstein believes the club could make contact with the former Borussia Dortmund chief as early as November.
