Liverpool hoping to fend off interest from Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea for Portuguese ace
In Demand: Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder attracting January interest from Liverpool
LIVERPOOL are interested in signing defensive midfielder William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon, according to reports.

Brendan Rodgers is believed to be eyeing the Portuguese international, who impressed in the Under-21 European Championships over the summer, as a January target, claims the Liverpool Echo.
Carvalho has been linked with a host of top Premier League clubs in the past few seasons - including Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

It comes as no surprise Rodgers has targeted a defensive midfielder with Anfield captain Jordan Henderson currently out with a foot injury and Lucas Leiva's position at the club in doubt.
The Kop boss was close to allowing Leiva to join Turkish outfit Beskitas in the summer with the Brazilian international himself admitting he almost left the club.

So the January acquisition of Carvalho could open the exit door even further for the 28-year-old.
Carvalho is currently ruled out of the Sporting Lisbon side after being diagnosed with a stress fracture of the tibia.
The 23-year-old has made 60 appearances for the Portuguese side scoring five goals, and has enjoyed loan spells at Fatima and Cercle Brugge.
