David De Gea arriving for international duty |
JUAN MATA insists David De Gea can handle the "difficult" situation following the collapse of his transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid.
Mata, his United and Spain team-mate, believes his strong personality will see him overcome the disappointment and hints that he will be welcomed back into the fold at Old Trafford.
De Gea saw his move to Real Madrid break down at the last minute with both clubs blaming each other for administrative errors in the deal.
United have also suggested Real got cold feet over the move, possibly in relation to a poll from Spanish paper Marca which eventually stressed that fans wanted Keylor Navas as the club's No.1 this season.
However Mata, with De Gea on international duty ahead of Spain's fixtures with Slovakia and Macedonia, says the keeper is relaxed.
“He seems the same as ever to me," Mata said. "He’s calm, relaxed. He has a naturally calm personality. These have been difficult days but he is ok.
“It is good for him to be here with the national team too. I think his personality will help. He is always calm.
"Even in moments of maximum pressure or stress he still plays well. His personality will help him on and off the pitch.
“David is professional and he always will be. His desire and professionalism will remain intact. Any team in the world would be better off with him in it.
"The fans always support the team, all of us, and they will support him.
“He is a friend and he is very professional. I wish him the best and I am sure he will be fine. He will manage the situation.”
De Gea is yet to feature for United this season after Louis van Gaal claimed he was not in the right frame of mind ahead of the season opener with Tottenham.
However after the deadline passed with him still a United player it is understood the Dutchman will attempt to reconcile with De Gea and wants him as his first-choice keeper for the season.
Van Gaal has used summer signing Sergio Romero in the club's opening six games - but he made two errors in the defeat against Swansea and has come under scruitiny.
