Huge Man Utd boost as star returns but Van Gaal reveals defender not fit for Saints clash
Wayne Rooney last played for England against Switzerland
WAYNE ROONEY is fit to play for Manchester United against Southampton at St Mary's on Sunday.

Rooney missed last week's 3-1 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford but manager Louis van Gaal revealed he is ready to start this weekend.
However, the trip to the south coast will come too soon for Phil Jones, who is back training but not fit for action.

"Wayne is fit to play," Van Gaal said.
"He’s only had one week out. It was because we weren’t taking any risks with him.
"Phil Jones has come back and trained with the group for the first time.
"He’s not match fit but he’s fit to train. Only Luke Shaw is injured."

United visit St Mary's on Sunday (4pm kick-off) looking to avenge last season's 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal got one over fellow Dutchman Ronald Koeman at St Mary's with a 2-1 win in this fixture last term.
However, Saints dominated large parts of that game and the United boss is well aware of the threat posed by a team currently 11th in the Premier League table.
"They have a very good team. I don't think their current position is a normal position for them," he added.
