Arsene Wenger: I don't want to hear 'cheap excuses' after Chelsea game

ARSENE WENGER believes there will be no excuses for a poor performance from Arsenal against Chelsea.

The Gunners lost their opening game of the Champions League group stages in midweek against Croatian outfit Dynamo Zagreb.
And despite the demoralising defeat, Wenger insists there can be no excuses given should they fail to get the result against Chelsea on Saturday (12.45pm).

When asked whether resting players in Croatia has handed Jose Mourinho the initiativ, he replied: “No, in football you have to forget always cheap excuses and focus on what matters on the day, which is the performance.
“If you want to make a career at a club without any disappointment, or individual disappointment it is not possible.

“Your career is decided by how well you perform on the day, that you have to perform. That is what matters on Saturday.
And Wenger will not allow a late return from Europe on Wednesday evening be brandished as an excuse for a poor showing against the Blues.
He added: “I don’t use that as an excuse. I knew before the game in Zagreb that time would be short and took decisions a little bit linked with that.
“We are in a position where we can perform tomorrow.
"These players have a good, strong mentality and good attitude and they want to put things right of course.
"It is a different competition, we are just on the back of an away win at newcastle, we have won at home to Stoke so let’s continue our strong run."
