WEST HAM co-chairman David Gold admits manager Slaven Bilic ended his interest in Emmanuel Adebayor because the Tottenham striker was 'very expensive'.

The 31-year-old Togo international was expected to leave during the summer after struggling to break into Mauricio Pochettino's first-team.
The former  and striker, who was also linked with a move to , reportedly met with Bilic to discuss an Upton Park switch.

But the Hammers manager instead opted for the cheaper option in Croatian compatriot Nikica Jelavic, who .
Talking of West Ham's pursuit of Adebayor, Gold told talkSPORT: "I think it was more an enquiry.

"Slaven showed interest - we showed a bit of interest - and then it sort of all went quiet and Slaven obviously decided against it.
"[He's a] very expensive player and I think he just weighed it up and felt with Andy [Carroll] coming back, with [Enner] Valencia coming back, with [Mauro] Zarate coming back and, of course, he was confident we would bring in the player from Hull [Jelavic]."
