David De Gea ended up signing a four-year deal with Manchester United |
The Spaniard was widely expected to join Real Madrid over the summer.
However, a deal collapsed after De Gea's paperwork was filed too late.
De Gea, who was entering the final year of his contract, ended up penning a new four-year deal with the Red Devils.
But according to Manchester Evening News, De Gea never wanted to let his contract run down.
The report suggests De Gea told his team-mates he wouldn't leave United empty-handed.
It is believed De Gea has a £30million buyout clause inserted into his contract.
