West Ham are trying to sign Juventus Simone Zaza in a desperate bid to resolve striker crisis |
WEST HAM are desperately trying to seal a deal for Juventus striker Simone Zaza to stave off a major striker crisis.
Hammers forward Diafra Sakho has suffered a groin injury to leave the struggling club with no fit first-team attackers ahead of Saturday's trip to Liverpool.
And the Upton Park side have sold Modibo Maiga to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr just three days after he scored against Bournemouth in the Premier League.
Diafra Sakho has picked up a groin injury which leaves Hammers boss Slaven Bilic with no strikers |
Sakho's injury has prompted manager Slaven Bilic to pull out all the stops to land Zaza on a season-long loan deal, with a view to an £11.5m permanent transfer next summer.
Zaza, 24, has fallen down the pecking order at the Italian champions and wants first-team football to help his chances of playing for Italy at next summer's European Championships.
Sakho had to come off on Saturday in the 3-4 defeat by Bournemouth, and posted pictures of his groin encased in ice on social media on Monday.
Fellow striker Mauro Zarate is out for several weeks with a hamstring strain, while record signing Andy Carroll is still not ready after having knee surgery in February.
Sakho underwent a scan on Monday and is only rated as 50/50 for the weekend trip to Anfield, with West Ham desperate to avoid a third successive League defeat.
