Chelsea are ready to spend £70m on Paul Pogba |
CHELSEA are desperate to sign Paul Pogba as fears reportedly grow over Jose Mourinho's midfield dynamics.
The Premier League champions are preparing a £72million bid for Pogba that would smash the British transfer record.
The 22-year-old midfielder was expected to leave Juventus this summer but the Turin club have so far held off advances from some of Europe's elite sides.
Barcelona and Manchester City were in for him, but it is now believed Chelsea will force Juve's hand with a huge bid.
The London Evening Standard suggest Mourinho is concerned over Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic's effectiveness in midfield.
The pair have started all three of Chelsea's Premier League games this season and were in the XI for their Community Shield defeat to Arsenal earlier this month.
And, while the defence has been blamed for conceding eight goals in four games already this campaign, the Standard report that the midfield will be bolstered before deadline day.
Chelsea are on the verge of landing centre-half John Stones from Everton after the player handed in a transfer request yesterday.
The Blues must stump up Everton's £40m asking price for Stones, meaning they could fork out as much as £110m on two players before the deadline shuts next Tuesday.
