CHELSEA earned their first victory of the Premier League season as they defeated West Brom in a five goal thriller at the Hawthorns.
 
The Baggies had an early chance to take the lead as Callum McManaman was brought down in the box by a clumsy challenge from Nemanja Matic but Thibaut Courtois saved James Morrison's penalty straight down the middle with his legs.
Morrison was made to pay for his miss as four minutes later the Blues were in front. Chelsea's £21.4million signing Pedro scoring on his debut via a slight deflection off Jonas Olsson to take it past Boaz Myhill.
Chelsea doubled their lead on the half hour mark. This time Pedro turned provider as his low cross found Diego Costa to tap in from close range.

West Brom came to life after that and managed to pull one back via Morrison. Salomon Rondon's overhead kick picked out the midfielder who slotted it neatly past Courtois into the bottom corner.
Jose Mourinho's side extended their lead once again just before the break as Costa cushioned the ball into the path of Cesar Azpilicueta to side foot the loose ball past the keeper.
Shortly after the restart, captain John Terry was sent off after he brought down Rondon with the defender the last man as the chased a long ball over the top.
 
West Brom used their extra man advantage to pull another one back as Morrison - doing his utmost to rectify his penalty miss in the first half - scored a wonderful backwards header from McManaman's cross.
Both sides had their chances in the final quarter but Mourinho's side held on to depart the Hawthorns with all three points.
