Ronald Koeman will not make sweeping changes for Southampton's Europa League clash |
RONALD KOEMAN reckons he would be "crazy" to jeopardise Southampton's European adventure by tinkering with his starting XI.
The Saints, returning to continental competition after a 12-year absence, won 3-0 at St Mary's against Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Europa League.
Koeman would be forgiven for resting players, especially as he has an away Premier League trip to Newcastle United on Sunday, but the Dutchman said: "Football is sometimes strange and if you don't start with enough concentration, if you don't play with the same intensity in pressing the opponent, then it's possible that you get a difficult evening.
Koeman's side are in a strong position as Graziano Pelle helped them to a 3-0 win in the first leg |
"But if we play at our level with the same concentration and the same intensity, the qualities make the difference.
"We have to respect the competition because we did a great season last year and we played for the Europa League over 38 games in the Premier League.
"It is a crazy thing to think about it, to throw everything away in the start of the Europa League legs. I don't like that.
"I'm a person who likes to win always and I hate losing."
