QPR have been fined £8m |
QUEENS PARK RANGERS are set to be fined only £8million by the Football League after breaching financial fair play rules in 2013-14.
Rangers had been expected to be hit with a far larger punishment, after showing losses of £9.8m for the period - though chairman Tony Fernandes and other shareholders wrote off some £60m in loans.
The fear had been that the League would not accept the write-offs and the club would be hit with a fine of a potentially ruinous £50m.
But extensive talks have taken place and the Loftus Road club now expect to be docked around £8m.
Rangers, now relegated to the Championship, recorded losses of £65.4m in 2012-13 - but were able to show they reduced expenditure in 2013-14 by £22m.
Their squad has also been radically reduced in numbers and Charlie Austin has been heavily linked with a £15m move back to the Premier League.
