Pep Guardiola: Manchester United's Bastian Schweinsteiger has not been fit for three years

BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER has not been fully fit for three years.

That is the harsh assessment of Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola who grew frustrated with his fitness levels in Bavaria.

Schweinsteiger, 31, joined Manchester United last month in a £14.4million move as part of Louis van Gaal's summer overhaul.

But United will not get the best out of the World Cup winner unless he shakes off his problems.
Guardiola said: “When he does not have injury problems I am completely convinced he will do very well at Manchester United.

"He is a top, top player. Unfortunately, the last three years he was never in good condition.
“When he is in very good condition I am convinced he will be a good player for them. I really hope that is going to happen.”
Schweinsteiger started just 15 times in the Bundesliga last season, making five more appearances from the bench.

However Guardiola was more optimistic on Pedro's move to Old Trafford.
The Barcelona winger is set to join United in a £22million deal this week.
And Guardiola, who worked with Pedro at the Nou Camp, thinks he will be a stellar addition.
He said: “He is one of the best players you can imagine. He's won the European Cup, the Champions League and played millions of games for Barcelona.
“He can play in any team in the world. He’s a great player.”
