Manchester City have had to smash their club-record fee to sign Kevin De Bruyne |
MANCHESTER CITY have had to smash their club record for the second time in just a few weeks to land major target Kevin de Bruyne.
His club Wolfsburg have refused to do business until City agreed to pay around £50 million for the former Chelsea star.
With the transfer window deadline approaching City have finally conceded meaning the deal outweighs the previous record £49 million for Liverpool's Raheem Sterling.
City's interest was first revealed by Sunday Express Sport in December and the club have since been involved in careful negotiations with the Bundesliga club who were at first reluctant to do business.
But now they are happy to pocket a staggering profit of £32 million on the player who was allowed to leave Stamford Bridge.
De Bruyne's arrival takes manager Manuel Pellegrini' summer spending to £150 million following the relaxation of the FFP requirements.
