Country queen Taylor Swift turned down a billionaire to be with her friends |
COUNTRY star Taylor Swift turned down £2million to perform three songs at a billionaire’s wedding so she could sing for free at a christening party for a friend’s new baby.
The tycoon told 25-year-old Taylor he would pay a million dollars a song if she then spent a mere 30 minutes mingling with him, his bride and their guests.
Proud parents Jaime, 36, and her husband, Hollywood screenwriter and director Kyle Newman, 39, were described as being “deliriously happy” about Taylor’s “sweet gesture” of serenading their new son. The superstar singer has declined to name the mystery billionaire she turned down. The guest said: “You have to admire her for putting friendship ahead of fi nancial considerations. She said no to a small fortune so she could bring happiness to a good friend.” Taylor, who was with her boyfriend, Scottish DJ and record producer Calvin Harris, 31, was “a little teary-eyed” at one stage, telling Jaime “how lucky she was to have such a wonderful family”. The singer is reportedly keen to start her own family. A friend said: “She and Calvin are looking for a substantial property in LA where they can put down roots.”
But seven-times Grammy winner Taylor, who has already amassed a £160million fortune, according to Forbes magazine, went instead to the Los Angeles home of one of her closest friends.
Model and actress Jaime King was celebrating the christening of her second child, son Leo, born last month.
A fellow guest said: “Taylor arrived with her own music backing tracks and belted out some of her biggest hits, including Love Story, I Knew You Were Trouble and Red.
“She even rocked little Leo in her arms and hummed a lullaby to him. But he started screaming almost immediately, so she sheepishly handed him back to his mom.”
