Fernando Llorente could be set to make an emotional return to Athletic Bilbao |
FERNANDO LLORENTE could be set to return to Athletic Bilbao two years after leaving the club for Juventus, according to reports.
Llorente has been linked with a move away all summer, with Manchester United and Arsenal thought to be in the running for his signature.
However, Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb claim he could now be set for an emotional reunion with his former club.
The Spaniard made 262 La Liga appearances for the Basque club between 2005 and 2013, scoring 85 league goals.
His goalscoring prowess caught the eye of Gunners manager Arsene Wenger before Juventus nipped in to secure his services on a free transfer.
In two seasons in Italy, the 30-year-old has netted 23 times in 65 Serie A games and made a cameo appearance in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid last season.
Sevilla are also understood to retain an interest after selling Carlos Bacca to AC Milan, although United could yet have a say.
Speculation about a move to Old Trafford heightened earlier in the transfer window after manager Louis van Gaal revealed he was in the market for a "surprise striker".
