Liverpool are reportedly prepared to increased their bid for Shakhtar Donetsk star Alex Teixeira.

Express Sport understands Reds chief executive Ian Ayre held face to face talks with Shakhtar officials in Florida on Wednesday and put a £24m offer for Teixeira on the table.

The Ukrainian club are seeking around £38m for the Brazilian forward, who is also interesting Chelsea.

But the MailOnline report Liverpool are ready to increase their offer for Teixeira.

Chelsea have announced Branislav Ivanovic has signed a new contract.

Ivanovic has put pen to paper on a fresh one-year deal to keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2017.

"I am very happy to stay with Chelsea for another season," the 31-year-old said. "After eight years here this is my home and there is no other place I would rather play football.

"I have enjoyed so much success since moving to the club and I am determined to help the team achieve more in the last months of this season and next year as well."
 
Louis van Gaal has admitted he has been forced into the transfer market - after losing Ashley Young to injury.

Matteo Darmian is United's only fit senior full-back after Young was ruled out - and requires surgery - with Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo also sidelined.

"We are looking, but it is not so easy," he said. "Nobody can understand that because it is easy and it is not so."
