BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER is confident Manchester United can progress into the group stage of Champions League by beating Club Brugge over two legs.
Old Trafford welcomes the return of Champions League football tonight (19.45), as they welcome Brugge for the first leg of their playoff, following a brief absence from the competition last year - their first in 19 years.
Louis van Gaal's men have made an unbeaten start to their Premier League campaign while the Belgian side have also made a promising start in the Belgium Pro League (W3, D1, L1) which currently sees them third in the table.
The German midfielder took to Twitter yesterday to tell his 2.6m followers: "After two #BPL wins we want to lay the foundation of qualifying for the #UCL against Club Brugge tomorrow! #mufc".
Schweinsteiger completed a £15m move to United last month, signing a three-year deal and becoming the first German to play for the club.
He came off the bench to make his debut in their opening 1-0 victory over Tottenham and the 31-year-old has expressed how the welcome he received gave him "goose bumps".

"For me, it was a big surprise to see how many supporters welcomed me with warmth and enthusiasm at the opening league game against Tottenham at Old Trafford. It gave me goose bumps.
"I can promise I'll do everything I can, using all my experience, to try and help the club to reach the same international level as Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern."
