The Boeing 787 Dreamliner can hold up to 335 passengers |
A PASSENGER jet heading for London was forced to emergency land in Amsterdam after running out of fuel mid-flight.
China Southern flight CZ303 was reportedly ordered to avoid Chinese military activity after taking off from Gangzhou.
In July a pilot with just three minutes of fuel left was told he could not land at an airport because the runway was closed. The Allegiant Air plane was circling Fargo's Hector International Airport in North Dakota, America, when it requested permission to land. But the pilot of flight 426 was told the airport was out of service because the Navy's Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron were rehearsing for an air show and was recommended to fly to another airport 70 miles away. The pilot then worriedly told ground officials that he does not have enough "fuel to go anywhere else". The pilot eventually managed to land the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 safely.
It meant the Boeing Dreamliner jet, which can hold up to 335 passengers, did not have enough fuel to make it to London Heathrow.
It diverted to Amsterdam around an hour before it was due to land in the capital at 3.30pm.
