Mark Lawrenson thinks United need someone like Bale (pictured) |
MANCHESTER UNITED still need to make a massive signing or two if they are going to go far in the Champions League this term.
That is according to former Liverpool great Mark Lawrenson.
The Red Devils have to get past Club Brugge first before they qualify for the Champions League proper.
United have already spent over £80million so far this summer.
But Lawrenson feels the Red Devils need to make another big acquisition if they are to do well in Europe this season.
"They're still missing a couple of players. I think they could make us go 'wow' and blow us out of water with a major signing," Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
"It's Manchester United and the deals they have completed have been ok so far.
"But yeah they could do with a Bale or Ronaldo-type signing.
"They can't go into the Champions League proper with the squad they have and expect to get out of the group."
Meanwhile, United's chief executive Ed Woodward has jetted into Barcelona tonight to try and thrash out a £22m deal for Pedro.
