David De Gea is unhappy with Van Gaal's comments |
DAVID DE GEA is 'baffled' by claims made by Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal that he refused to play against Aston Villa.
Van Gaal sensationally revealed the Spaniard, who wants to Real Madrid, agreed to be left out of United clash with Villa tonight (7:45pm) because he was distracted by speculation over his future.
The Dutchman said: "We've talked with him and he was fully agreed with our decision. We have a goalkeeping coach, Frans Hoek, so I'm not doing everything alone.
"Frans had a meeting with David and he asked him, 'Do you want to play?' The answer was no.
"Then I have to take the decision. It is a process. We had been observing him in preparation, and he was not so good, he was not the same David De Gea as before, when he was my best player last season. According to the fans, he was the best player of the last two years."
But according to the Daily Mail, De Gea is “baffled” by Van Gaal’s comments and worried his professionalism and commitment are being questioned.
The report adds that sources close to De Gea, say the goalkeeper has a 'completely clear conscience' and dismissed suggestions he asked to be left out of their opening match against Spurs and now Villa.
United are refusing to budge from their £35m valuation on De Gea unless defender Sergio Ramos is included in the deal.
