Manchester United could move for Karim Benzema if Real madrid are willing to sell |
MANCHESTER UNITED are monitoring Karim Benzema's situation at Real Madrid, according to reports.
The Guardian claim the club are not actively pursuing a new striker but are ready to move if a world-class option becomes available.
Benzema would fit that mould and United are said to be keeping tabs on the Frenchman.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with the 27-year-old all summer and were reportedly close to sealing a deal for £48million.
But Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal appears to be in desperate need of firepower and could steal in ahead of the Gunners.
Van Gaal's side have scored just one solitary goal in their first three matches of the Premier League season.
However, the Dutchman is sticking to his guns and believes he currently has enough attacking options despite their struggles.
Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and James Wilson are just three out-and-out forwards at the club but Memphis Depay could also be deployed in the No.9 position.
Depay scored twice in United's 3-1 win over Bruges in the Champions League and Van Gaal has praised his impact since signing from PSV in the summer.
