Former Liverpool star slams Brendan Rodgers' summer signings ahead of Stoke clash
Brendan Rodgers has spent big this summer with Christian Benteke his most expensive signing
FORMER Liverpool star Glen Johnson has slammed Liverpool's summer spending spree.

The defender, who completed a move to Stoke this summer on a free transfer, insists the signings won't make Liverpool a better side.
Brendan Rodgers has been busy this summer with Christian Benteke's £32.5m move from Aston Villa the most expensive of the lot, followed by Brazilian Roberto Firmino at £29m.

Glen Johnson spent six years at Anfield before joining Stoke
England quartet; Danny Ings, James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne and Joe Gomez also arrived at Anfield this summer along with goalkeeper Adam Bogdan.
But Johnson believes it won't have strengthened a side who'll be hoping to improve on their sixth placed finish last year.

“They’ve made some signings, but not ones that are going to walk straight into the team," said Johnson.
"They’ve lost Raheem (Sterling), who was an important player, so I wouldn’t say it’s a better squad than last year."
Johnson lines up against his former side today as Stoke hope to continue where they left off last season - beating Liverpool 6-1 in Steven Gerrard's final game.
