Cesc Fabregas can't defend, says Jamie Carragher |
JAMIE CARRAGHER has launched a scathing attack on Cesc Fabregas after his performance in Chelsea's defeat to Manchester City.
The Spain midfield endured a torrid game at the Etihad as City beat the Blues 3-0.
And while Jose Mourinho has described the scoreline as a "fake result", it is largely accepted that City dominated the game and could have won by more.
Asmir Begovic denied Sergio Aguero three times before he finally scored to break the deadlock.
Goals from Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho rounded off the victory.
And former Liverpool defender Carragher has blasted Fabregas' part, saying he can't defend and lacks intelligence.
Chelsea were left deflated by Manchester City |
"Why do you play Ramires?" Carragher said on Sky Sports
"Because you've got someone in Cesc Fabregas who is a fantastic footballer, creates goals, scores goals, but he can't defend as we saw in the first 10 seconds when David Silva turns him and puts Sergio Aguero through.
"He lacks tactical intelligence, especially defensively. That's one of the reasons Barcelona let Chelsea take him.
"If you play him in there [central midfield], Fabregas needs protection from Matic and Ramires and he didn't get that, especially from Ramires.
"The problems they had down that left side came from Ramires and Fabregas together."
