Ashley Williams is seen as a potential replacement for John Stones |
EVERTON are lining up Ashley Williams as a potential replacement for John Stones; if Chelsea complete a deal for the England defender.
Stones has been linked with a move all summer to the Blues despite Everton turning down two bids, thought to be in the region of £20m and £26m, with the Toffees holding out for around £30m.
Jose Mourinho's side are now expecting to come in with a third bid for the defender.
Roberto Martinez has been forced to look at back-up replacements should Stones leave, and Swansea captain Ashely Williams is at the top of his list, according to the Daily Star.
The 30-year-old played under the Spanish boss at Swansea and sources close to Williams believe Martinez will move for him if he loses Stones.
The Wales international is contracted at the Liberty Stadium for another three years after renewing his contract last month following interest from Crystal Palace.
Williams kept a clean sheet on Saturday as his side defeated Newcastle 2-0 with goals coming from Bafetimbi Gomis and Andre Ayew.
Swansea are also expecting Falkirk striker Botti Biabi to complete a medical today ahead of his move, according to Sky sources.
The highly-rated 19-year-old will join up with the U21 squad in a £150,000 deal.
