Barcelona ace Pedro heading to Old Trafford but Man City hijack Nicolas Otamendi deal
Pedro is set to become a Manchester United player this week
MANCHESTER UNITED hope to secure the signing of Barcelona winger Pedro today but have been foiled in their pursuit of another player in the transfer market.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has flown out to Spain to discuss terms with 28-year-old Pedro today.
Negotiations are expected to focus on the player's contract as United prepare to trigger his release clause, thought to be worth around £22million.

But while the club seek to lock down their sixth arrival of the summer, they appear to have lost out on a seventh.
For manager Louis van Gaal is still searching for defensive recruits, having overhauled his midfield in the off-season.

The Dutchman brought Italy international Matteo Darmian to the club early in the summer but has failed to add further to his back line.
But a bid for Valencia's Nicolas Otamendi has been hijacked by Manchester City.

United have already failed to sign Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos this summer and saw Argentine Otamendi as an alternative target.
But the 27-year-old is reportedly set to have a medical at City after their £35m bid triggered his release clause.
